What type of yoga is right for me?
What you do with your body is just as important as what you put into your body.
At Seventh Street Yoga, we believe that a regular and consistent yoga practice is one of the key ways by which you can lead a healthy, active and balance lifestyle.
Our goal is to provide unparallel yoga practice experience and to help simplify the process of discovering the right style of yoga for you. Yoga, just like all other good things in life, is a difficult but rewarding journey and we are honored to be a part of it.
The term yoga encompasses many things, but generally refers to the practice of physical postures and breathwork in order to bring about a calmer mind, stronger body, and healthier spirit, otherwise known as Hatha yoga. So, it is no surprised that all styles of physical yoga practice are part of the Hatha yoga system.
We believe that practicing yoga is not about what we look like from the outside but it is about how we feel from the inside. There is no “perfect” posture. And, there is no such thing as “I’m not good at yoga”.
At our beautiful space, we replace the wall mirror with beautiful, all natural bamboo wall covering as it is easier on the eyes and allow us to focus our attention inward. Instead of artificially heated the room, we keep the room at normal temperature and let the body and breath do the magic, organically generate heat from the inside.
Many different styles of yoga are available to make it easier for everyone to begin on his or her personal yoga journey. Each path brings the same benefits – a brighter spirit, a calmer mind, and a supple body. Because we are unique individuals, what each person finds engaging or challenging is entirely personal, and evolving. The different styles of yoga classes are available to keep the practitioners engaged, challenged and stay committed.
Deciding on which yoga class to take is essentially a personal choice and depends on many factors including life schedule, physical or mental condition, and it is an evolving process. It is our mission, at Seventh Street Yoga, to provide unparallel yoga services that compliment your evolving lifestyle.

Beginning classes
Hatha
Perfect for just about anyone. A gentle flowing Hatha yoga practice of passive stretching postures designed to enhance flexibility in the connective tissues that form our joints. The intention is to stimulate circulation in less flexible areas such as the lower back, hips, shoulders and sacrum. This deep, meditative practice is appropriate for all ages, level of fitness and flexibility.
Vinyasa (Basics)
Learn the fundamentals of linking breath with movement. At the heart of any yoga practice is the quality of the breath work and core strength (bandhas or locks). This class is perfect for absolute beginners as well as those with yoga experience.
Classical Hatha Yoga is by nature dynamic. Externally this is in the form of a flowing continuum between individual postures, and between postures, breathing and meditation. Internally it is in the profound, precise and continual activity of the body within the stillness of the postures. It is these dynamic qualities which make Hatha yoga meditation in action.
Ashtanga (Beginners)
Ashtanga is an ancient yoga system and the original movement-based yoga practice from which most flowing or power yoga styles are derived. This challenging method of yoga involves synchronizing the movement of breath with a series of progressive postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. Expect some level of sweatiness and challenges.
Anusara
Anusara is heart oriented, inspiring and yet grounded in Universal Principles of Alignment for both inner and outer body. It is a unique, therapeutic style of Hatha Yoga in which the artistic expression of the human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of biomechanics. Anusara was founded and created by John Friend in 1997. Anusara Yoga's remarkable popularity is due in large part to its uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a "celebration of the heart," that looks for the good in all people and all things. Consequently, students of all levels of ability and yoga experience are honored for their unique differences, limitations, and talents.
Flow (All levels)
In this gentle flow class, students flow from one posture to another, synchronizing breath and movement. Appropriate for all levels. All levels and Intermediate classes
Vinyasa Flow
In this fun-filled, challenging, sweaty vinyasa class, students flow from one posture to another, synchronizing breath and movement. Most classes are set to music. Generally, each class begins with sun salutations, standing poses, and balancing postures, then moves to seated forward-folds, twists, backbends and inversions. All levels welcome.
Hatha Flow
In this moderate flow class, students flow from one posture to another, synchronizing breath and movement. The postures practiced in a regular Hatha class are "linked" into a sequence of movements that "flow" with the breath in a more vigorous series, little rest in between and creates a strong cardiovascular workout. All levels welcome.Flow (Level 2)
This more challenging flow class will introduce students to more advanced arm balancing and inversion postures such as arm balances, backbends, handstands, but still focus on the quality of breath and meditation in motion. All levels welcome.
Ashtanga Primary series
In this class, we will go through a full sequence of Ashtanga Primary series, with some modifications as appropriate. Generally, the class will go through sun salutation, standing sequence, the primary series sequence, then conclude with backbends, shoulder stand, headstand, final breathing sequence, and resting (savasana).
This is a perfect class for students who have taken Ashtanga Beginners, and in the process of learning the sequence of Ashtanga primary series. Basic knowledge of sun salutation required. The teacher will offer modifications that best suits the levels of students in the class.
